See Spot Run

We lost our dog, Loki, yesterday. Forever, we've just let him out the back door, he does his thing and comes back to the door and waits to come back in. Yesterday, Chris got home from school around 3:30 and let him out like usual. When I got home around 4:30 he was no where to be found. Chris, Ryan and I walked ALL OVER our property and the surrounding area, but he wasn't anywhere. I got in my car and started driving down the streets close to our house til dark, but i didn't find him. When we came inside, I called the local SPCA, but they were closed for the night, so I had to leave a message for the next day. Cheryl also called our local police dept. and reported him missing and she and Chris looked around outside some more with a flashlight. When we went to bed I was pretty upset. I really didn't think we'd find him. I've had Loki for almost 14 years... When we got up this morning, Cheryl went to work and took Ryan to school and I started driving around again. Thursday night I went and had 100 flyers made up and I was planning to put them in mail boxes and businesses around here, but when I got started I realized what a huge task that was going to be and thought my time would be better spent looking. So I drove around... Every neighborhood and industrial park in a large radius around our house in the direction I thought he went from where Chris said he saw him last. I was out til about 9:45 am when it started raining and I got too discouraged and came home. When I got home I called the police dept. of the area that I thought he had gone. Good thing I did, because they told me that they had just got a report from OUR police dept saying that they found a dog that matched Loki and they were taking him to the SPCA. As soon as I hung up from them, The SPCA called me and told me they had him. The police had brought him there. They found him under a parked car some miles away from our house. They SPCA told me that he seemed to be injured, but I was so happy they had him I didn't even think to ask how. I bolted there and got him back. They said when the the police found him he had a bloody nose and when they brought him out of the back room I could see that he was limping. More that likely he had been hit by a car, luckily not a horrible hit. I took him right to the vet. They looked him over very carefully and said he didn't have a broken leg because he was walking on them. Listening to his heart and lungs the vet could hear a little distress in his breathing, but it could have been just from getting beat around. We have to watch for a couple day to see that his breathing improves and if not, back to the vet for x-rays. He slept like a rock all day. I'm sure it was a horrible night for him with no sleep. For anyone that doesn't know him, he is terrified of people and very skittish and insecure. He also doesn't hear too well. I think he got distracted, wandered further then he is used to, got scared and just started going. Unfortunatly, going the wrong way. Right now it is 1:30 am Sat. morning and he just came down and ate and drank, so that's a good sign :). From now on he WILL NOT be going out on his ever again!
