CONGRATULATIONS METAL JIM!!!!!!!!! Yeah! Jim won his heat in the derby yesterday. It was awesome. For anybody that doesn't know, this was Jim's 7th derby. He's done pretty good most years and a couple of years... well ..... anyway HE WON THIS YEAR!! he had a '91 Toronado, front wheel drive and totally stripped out. He did a great job on the car, "The Whirlwind of Terror". Uncle Steven added some killer tornados on the hood and trunk to give the car the "intimidation factor" . I think I've helped Jim every year so far and I was flipping out when he won... I didn't get to watch with the rest of the fam that was there because I was Jim's "mechanic" (pretty much just a title... "Helper Oompa Loompa" is really more like it) and by the time I got out of "the pit" the thing had started, so I just watched from where I was. When he won I started babbling to the guy next to me... "That's my Buddy that just won!!! That's our car!!! This is his 7th year and the 1st time he won!!!!" and the guy was just like ... "oooook". Also, we finally caught up with Joooohn Peterson... a man who knows how not to answer his phone. That was cool because I've been trying to get a hold of him for forever... Anyway CONGRATS JIM!!! Next year... a winner's heat win???

Ok, Bart, you asked for a comment, so here goes...
The derby last night was awesome! It's so cool when someone you know wins, especially when they've been trying for so long! Sorry you weren't in the stands with us, though. The energy level there was cool and we wouldn't have looked at you like you were nuts when you freaked out about him winning:) Can't wait til next year!
Great blog entry Bart!!! Thanks for being my mechanic - again. Shame we couldn't get that damn thing running for the final, but I'll GLADLY take the heat win.
HELL YEAH!!!!
I really want to thank everyone that helped. Bart, Chris and Andrew did a great job with the glass, hood and the trunk. Steve and Petz did a bang up job on the paint. Steve's tornado template really came out good.
Hopefully I'll be a bit more ready for the final next time.
the derby was awsome. tell jim that i said he did an awsome job. talk to ya later.
