Rock Stars
My last post about the "Mono Recorder" got me remembering some of that stuff from "back in the day"...
In the late 80's I was the singer in a Heavy Metal band... SINDROME (heard of it? Somehow I doubt it). It was a great experience and one of the most fun times of my life. My two best friends were also in the band, Tom Ross(drums) and Jim Ross (bass). We had some original songs ( even a professional "demo"... on cassette of course) and we covered bands like Dokken, Kiss, GnR, Tesla, Poison, ... well, you get the picture. But... we were more than just music... We were the real deal. Spandex pants, ripped shirts, leather or snake skin boots (although usually Converse All-Stars for me), lots of cheap jewelry, big, BIG hair, head bands, arm bands and thick studded, leather belts. Of course in public you wore blue jeans ripped to perfection over your spandex. We even had groupies... every practice, every show. We played parties, high schools and clubs. The rush from being on stage singing and having a whole bar singing along with you was amazing. One of the coolest times, we were doing our sound check and we got into it and played a whole song... "Run for the Night" by Mad Max. At the end of the song, the whole place was clapping and cheering. A song no one had even heard of before and our sound check. It was awesome. Of course "all good things must come to an end" and due to "creative differences" SINDROME dismantled. A couple of the guys moved on to other bands and I'm pretty sure that Steve, the guitar player is in a band now that's on the edge of actually "making it". I never got into another band myself. It wouldn't have been the same without my "brothers" Tom and Jim, but I will never forget what a great time in my life that was or the expression on my Mom's face when she talks about the first time she saw me on stage in spandex pants.
